Yes, you read that right! Wedding insurance: what is it? do you need it? should you get it? Obviously people have various thoughts on this, so here is a quick tutorial.

What is wedding insurance?

Like other forms of insurance, wedding insurance protects your investment in the wedding. The insurance policy you purchase will cover various aspects of the wedding.

Why?

Well, there are a number of things that could go wrong on your wedding day or before your wedding that might make you want to (or have to) postpone the big day.  For example, before your wedding, a vital member of the party or the family may get sick and be unable to attend. That person might be important enough that you want to hold off until they are well.  Or, on the day of the wedding, the officiant might not show up – which might mean that you have to pay even more to get a new one to show up that day. These situations would be covered.

Wedding-Day-Insurance.Com informs us that the top five claimable items from your wedding are:

  • damaged wedding attire
  • re-taking wedding photographs
  • canceling the wedding because of illness or bereavement
  • caterers not showing up
  • loss of wedding rings (whoops!)

In other words, wedding insurance can take care of some of the anxieties you might have about planning your wedding day…. namely, the “what ifs.”  One site encourages paying the average price of $150 – $500 just for the peace of mind, especially in this economic environment.  The same site has suggestions for which websites to check out.

Why not?

READ the contracts with your vendors. They might have contingencies that obviate the need for wedding insurance.

Maybe you dont think it’s worth it! I have a friend who didn’t even consider getting wedding insurance… and she has no qualms with that. It’s really a worst-case-scenario path to take.

Did you get wedding insurance? Will you?
