Amanda & Jason’s Engagement Story
Last week, we asked people to submit the story of their engagements. We had a few entries that we loved and we’ve decided to publish a few of them. Here is the first! This is the story of Amanda & Jason’s engagement, in Amanda’s words, which took place on January 28, 2009.

“On a random Wednesday evening, Jason picked me up to go with him to babysit his cousin Dane’s two year old son. Once we arrived at their house, it was super dark and no one was home. Jason took his cell phone out and called Dane. Dane told him that they were running late and in the check out line at the grocery store. Jason looked at me and said, ‘Wanna walk to the beach and back?’ I thought nothing of it because they live across the street from the beach – I actually almost said no out of laziness, but said yes and grabbed my coat.
As we approach the beach I am excited to see that there is a fabulous sunset taking place – how lucky to get to see it! As we step out onto the sand I see a bunch of candles…my first reaction in my head is ‘oh my gosh what is that??!!!’, but then I quickly calm down and think, ‘Amanda don’t assume that is for you – what if it isn’t, that would be embarrassing’ But Jason quickly started guiding me towards the candles and I then hit a wall of shock. This is the moment I’m supposed to remember for the rest of my life, this is it right now, this is it, oh my gosh… ahh pay attention to what is going on now! I am completely, 100% surprised.
Jason went down on one knee right away (he knows that I would have been ticked if he led me to believe it wasn’t our engagement for awhile) and he said so many amazing things about our relationship and future – and then he popped the question and I said Yes about a million times. My ring is gorgeous, and he picked it out all by himself – no input from me (ps he spoiled me!)
I was then able to absorb all the details around me, roses, rose petals, 150 candles, chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, cheese & crackers, SO amazing. He had Dane and another cousin, Johnny taking pictures and video of the entire thing too. After about an hour of being really excited and laughing together, we went back to the house we were supposed to be babysitting at and our families were all there – and then friends started coming over and we celebrated throughout the rest of the night. One special touch was that Jason brought his Mac over to the house and had Johnny upload all of the photos as soon as he got back from taking photos – so everyone could see all of the amazing pictures of the engagement right there at our party. It was the perfect random Wednesday evening. ”
