Cracking the Code to Wedding Abbreviations
comment 2 Written by on November 10, 2008 – 12:00 am

With a whole slew of abbreviations these days, it’s easy to get confused when someone says “brb rotfl!”  Wedding abbreviations are even worse, especially if you have never planned or been in a wedding before. While The Wedding Bee gives a comprehensive list of abbreviations that includes things like “btw,” here is a list of those abbreviations that are only relevant to weddings (or most common in planning them)!

bm = bridesmaid or best man

bp = bridal party

dh = darling husband

e-ring = engagement ring

e-party = engagement party

fg = flower girl

gm = groomsmen

JP = justice of the peace

mil = mother in law

moh = maid/matron of honor

nh = new husband

rb = ring bearer

stds = save-the-date cards (context counts!)

wp = wedding party

  1. Here are a couple I use all the time

    B&G – Bride & Groom
    FOH-Front of House (refers to the guests/table area in a catering hall)

    I’m sure there are lots more!

  2. I think std is my favorite wedding abbreviation :)

    Here are a few more:
    fi = fiance
    fh = future husband
    fmil/ffil = future mother/father in law
    fsil/fbil = future sister/brother in law
    doc = day of coordinator
    ds/dd = dear son/daughter
