Engagement Story: Natasha and Adam

Someone recently asked how I got engaged, so I thought I would share the story. Remember, if you want to share YOUR engagement story with us, please email me at natasha@theweddinglens.com! We love hearing your stories!

I guess there is a little bit of background warranted. Adam and I started our relationship at a 3000 mile distance, so we only got to spend weekends together, once a month, for the first 8-9 months of the relationship. And then we moved in together. (I know! A bit of a change….!)

The day before the two year anniversary of living together, Adam asked that we get up early and head off to a “surprise weekend.” This didn’t seem suspicious, surprisingly, because I had done the same thing to him only a month earlier.

At 8 a.m., we started to drive out to the ocean and up the coast. (We live in Los Angeles, so it’s not too far for us!) At a certain point, we reached a beach where we had gone on my first visit to Los Angeles and our third weekend together. It was a meaningful beach… we had one of our very first very deep “relationshipy” talks. (Groan, I know)

Adam suggested that we pull over to stop at “our” beach. We found a nice spot on the beach, and sat next to each other. He started talking about me and us and our relationship and voila! He asked if I would marry him. I cried, hugged, and then said “Yes of course!”

It turned out that the ring (something I had not really cared about) was one of the most meaningful parts of the engagement. The ring belonged to Adam’s grandma — who he was very close with and who I never had the opportunity to meet. I am beyond honored and flattered to be wearing this amazing ring.

The rest of the weekend proved to be almost more incredible. We went to a beautiful resort on the ocean. When we arrived, Adam walked past the registration desk to elevators. He told me follow him through the maze of hallways. We reached a door and he pulled out a key (which was very suspicious because we live together and he was home the night before!). When he opened the door, there were a dozen roses and he had decorated the bed with personalized M&Ms (including ones with a photo that we took during that trip to the beach two+ years earlier — all in orange and blue, my favorite colors).  He had arranged for a couples massage and he had brought champagne to celebrate. We had a lovely dinner at the resort that night — and I thought that was the whole amazing weekend.

I was wrong.

The next day, we headed to brunch about 45 minutes away. When we arrived, who was there? My parents! They had flown in for the day to celebrate with us. Amazing.

Truly the best weekend ever.

And that, my friends, is our engagement story! :)
