Gift Bags for Out of Town Guests!
You may have received a gift bag when checking into a hotel for a wedding… What’s the scoop with that?
What is it?
Some people like to have gift bags that the hotel will give to each guest as he or she checks in to the hotel. It’s a nice token and can make people feel welcome. Some people call this “OOT Bags” for “out of town bags” because they’re primarily for out of town guests.
What goes in it?
You can put whatever you want in the OOT bag! Snacks, water, tissues, candles, itineraries, maps, local souvenirs.
I received a fabulous one at a wedding that had a few snacks (chips, rice crispy treats, cookies), a bottle of water, tissues, and the itinerary (a bus was picking us up at the hotel to take us to the ceremony/reception and back again). It was sweet. I arrived late and was thirsty and hungry and I felt welcomed — even without anyone being around.
What kind of bag is it?
There are many types of bags out there for these types of gifts and favors; it all depends on what you’re looking for and how much you want to put inside. Some people might try to figure out another kind of creative container for the gifts.
So that’s the background on the gift bags! Will you have ‘em for your guests?

We made gift bags for our daughter’s wedding in Chicago.. so easy to do and my daughter had some creative and practical things planned to put in them. see how she did it: http://www.celebrationideasonline.com/wedding-gift-bags-for-out-of-town-guests.html
We did this for all of our guests and wedding party staying in the area hotels. We included bottled water, Juice boxes for those with kids, small packs of tylenol, body wash, snacks, and mints. We have recieved so many compliments on how nice it was to have the late night snacks, etc when they returned to their rooms after the wedding. It was well worth the time in assembling them and the small expense in filling them- we just used cute gift bags from the Dollar Store and bought large packages of snacks from Sam’s Club. The hotel staff was very gracious about delivering them when our guests checked in. I highly recommend taking the time to do this!
