A friend of mine once told me that being engaged was one of the best parts of her and her husband’s relationship (this was before the wedding, I shouild note). But she also said that it was the most stressful. With that in mind, I thought I’d create a list of Pros and Cons for having a short or a long engagement.

Pro for Short Engagement

Cons for a Short Engagement

Pro for a Long Engagement

  • More time to plan the perfect wedding, and at prices you can afford
  • More time to enjoy being engaged
  • You can pick the date before anyone else takes it (eg destination or holiday weddings, you can give people better notice)
  • You get to pick your venue of choice, get the band you want, and everything else

Con for a Long Engagement

  • More time to stress about the details and feel pressure
  • More time for nerves to kick in
  • Easy way to procrastinate (which might be a pro?)

What other reasons are there for a long or short engagement? Remember, no matter how long or short you’re engaged, you’re going to want a photo album to capture all the photos that your guests take.

  1. Our was long, but more due to scheduling around things going on in our lives. It was nice for planning the wedding.

  2. Our engagement is going to be a short one, because we don’t want to wait too long to get married; and I think it’s a good thing because wedding planning can be a pretty stressful experience! But I guess there is no perfect engagement time; it depends on the situation the couple are in, and so couples should adjust the way it suits them best.
